On creation of VR tour of the Mies's Barcelona Pavilion
When I was in last years of high school and still wondering about the path I was gonna take for my higher educations and eventually my career, my father gave me a book he had brought from a trip abroad, called ‘’Minimalism’’. I was fascinated by the beauty of the interiors and architecture of the buildings which were trimmed to the simplest and purest of forms and materials , and yet achieved to be visually so impressive. It was then I knew not only I wanted to be trained as an architect, but also minimalism was the style I wanted to learn more about and eventually I did my very first experiments following the ideas and aesthetic of that.
Minimalism in Architecture is paired with the name of the groundbreaking architect, Mies Van Der Rohe. I studied deeply his projects and the evolution of his works and the way he perceived a global vision for architecture. Fascinated by his style, his expertise in details and in giving new meanings to very fundamental elements of architecture, such as plan layoutss , columns and walls. therefore during my studies and career he has been always and idol for me and his works of great inspiration. One of his most important projects was the German pavilion built for the Barcelona world expo in 1929 , where he introduced some of his innovative ideas to the world.
Being an enthusiast about new digital technologies in AEC and particularly the opportunities they offer architects, I decided to persuade my higher education in doctorate level in Polytechnic university of Barcelona, with a focus on BIM impact on the practice of Architects. That´s why I moved to Barcelona and after a while I started working with CL3VER ,a startup focused on technologies for 3D presentations , where I was involved in definition and development of a BIM visualization tool which is a web based solution for Realtime BIM and Virtual Reality.
We had the honor to collaborate with The Fundació Mies van der Rohe , for the creation of a virtual tour of the Pavilion, which can be easily accessed through web for the ones who are interested to visit the pavilion no matter where they are, virtually, and learn about its history by the interactive tour where visitors can look around the building and be immersed in a 3D scene. You can access the tour Here, which has been hosted on the website of the Fundacio.
On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of its reconstruction, the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation hosted Pavilion Screen, a film festival where architecture is the main protagonist. CL3VER which was the sponsor of the event, presented an early version of the Virtual tour in the event and made it possible for the attendees to experience the pavilion in Virtual Reality .
I believe in opportunities and new possibilities virtual reality has to offer to architects, and we are just at the beginning of an era where the hardware and software for virtual reality is commercially available at reasonable costs and many like us in CL3VER, are working on solution to make it a standard practice and fit it in architectural firms software pipeline. The architect is now able to present his designs to the clients in a way more immersive than ever before, giving him better presentation efficiency and the clients better understanding of their project.
